Denmark Looks Ahead to Thomas & Uber Cup 2026
Forum Horsens has just hosted a week of high-level, international badminton. The 2025 European Badminton Championships have proven to be an organisational success, and the partnership behind the event – Badminton Denmark, Horsens Municipality, Sport Event Denmark, and Badminton Europe – extends its sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the festive and professional delivery of the championships.
At the same time, the focus is already shifting to 2026, when the Thomas & Uber Cup will be held in the same venue in Horsens.
“It’s wonderful that we’ve been able to bring our biggest and most prestigious championship to the strongest badminton nation in Europe. Realistically, there are only eight to ten possible locations where our major events can be held, so we are happy that Denmark can host. Here in Horsens, you’re met with such warm hospitality – you’re almost drawn into the arena. Thanks to Badminton Denmark, Horsens, and Sport Event Denmark, we’ve been able to celebrate our champions this year in truly world-class surroundings,” said Sven Serré, President of Badminton Europe.
The local response to the event has also been overwhelmingly positive.
“It’s been an amazing week of badminton here in Horsens, and I’m incredibly proud and deeply grateful for the tremendous support and enthusiasm we’ve experienced from all sides. Hundreds of volunteers have contributed with a fantastic effort – well organised and coordinated by Horsens Badminton Club. And Badminton Denmark has delivered a flawless championship with a set-up that has been both visually impressive and highly professional. We’re already looking forward to next year, when we’ll host the Thomas & Uber Cup here in Horsens,” said Peter Sørensen, Mayor of Horsens Municipality.
Unity, Excellence, and Sporting Passion
The European Badminton Championships were followed closely by both spectators and TV audiences across Europe. The combination of sporting excitement and a highly professional event set-up was noticed well beyond Denmark’s borders.
“The European Badminton Championships have truly been a showcase of what Danish badminton and Danish event hosting are capable of,” said Kristian Pinderup Langbak, CEO of Badminton Denmark, and continued:
“We’ve seen strong Danish performances on the court, and an even stronger effort behind the scenes. That gives us pride – and a solid foundation – as we, together with Horsens Municipality and Sport Event Denmark, now enter the final year of preparations for the Thomas & Uber Cup.”
Strategic Hosting with Global Reach
With both the European Badminton Championships and the Thomas & Uber Cup taking place in Horsens, the city has become a key destination on the international badminton calendar.
“The European Badminton Championships in badminton are a textbook example of how strong collaboration between a leading national federation, a highly committed host city, and us as the national event organisation creates the foundation for major international sporting events in Denmark. The championships have had both local impact and international reach, and we look forward to continuing this great partnership on the road to Thomas & Uber Cup 2026,” said Lars Lundov, CEO of Sport Event Denmark.
