Denmark, Norway and Sweden join in hosting the IHF Women’s World Championships 2023. IHF just announced the awarding of the championship during the Men’s World Championships in France.
It is a strong team that will stand behind the handball World Championship for women in 2023. Scandinavia thus becomes the arena for championship with Denmark, Norway and Sweden as hosts.
This means that there will be no fewer than three home grounds with crowded venues for even more matches in great atmospheres. It also means that Scandinavia can provide a joint bid for handball culture and passion for the sport.
“IHF 2023 Women’s World Championships will be great! We have really good experiences as joint hosts with Norway, and we are delighted that Sweden is now part of the team. In cooperation with Sport Event Denmark Scandinavia has presented a very strong bid, and we can now begin to unfold the potential,” says Jan Kampman, president of the Danish Organizing Committee.
Norway agrees in this matter, says Kaare Geir Lio, president in the Norwegian Handball Association:
“We are very happy with this joint bid, and we feel that this is a great way to develop our close cooperation. I believe we have a great foundation for creating the perfect world championship, and we are looking very much forward to it.”
Frederik Rapp, president in the Swedish Handball Association, see a great potential:
“We are, of course, very happy to be a part of the 2023 World Championship, and we hope that we in cooperation with our two neighboring countries can present an extraordinary championship to the handball world.”

– The Nordic bid was presented in Paris at the IHF Council Meeting by representatives of the handball associations in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Sport Event Denmark.
