Denmark says winning goodbye to Herning! The IHF Men’s World Championship 2025 has been a resounding success in Denmark – with Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning once again demonstrating Denmark’s status as a world-class host for international sporting events.

The Danish matches drew sold-out crowds of up to 15,000 spectators per game, with over 100,000 fans attending the championship in Herning overall. The electric atmosphere confirmed Denmark’s deep passion for handball.

Focusing on responsible event management and international branding, the tournament showcased how major sporting events can succeed economically, sustainably, and experientially.

“This championship has been a perfect showcase of Denmark as a host nation. It proves how we create value on multiple levels – sporting, economic, and for our international reputation. But above all, it’s the enthusiasm, the sense of community, and the festive atmosphere that stand out. From the sold-out stands to the dedicated volunteers who made it all possible, Denmark has once again shown why we are among the world’s best at hosting unforgettable, professional, and responsible sporting events,” said Lars Lundov, CEO of Sport Event Denmark.

Community and Passion Drive the Success

The championship wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible dedication of the handball community and volunteers.

“We are immensely proud to host yet another world championship on Danish soil in collaboration with Herning Municipality and Sport Event Denmark. The packed arenas, incredible atmosphere, and nationwide support show just how much handball means to Denmark. This is more than just sport – it’s culture and community, rooted in local clubs and carried all the way to the big stages. A huge thanks to the many volunteers who make this possible, not only during the championship but every day,” said Jan Kampman, Interim president of the Danish Handball Association.

A Responsible and Sustainable Event

The championship prioritized sustainability, from reusable materials in fan zones to eco-friendly catering, setting new standards for how sports and responsibility go hand in hand.

“Herning has once again proven to be an exceptional host for major sporting events. With sustainability at the forefront and tremendous support from fans, volunteers, and the local community, this tournament has been a true celebration of handball,” said Dorte West, Mayor of Herning.

A Venue Built for Champions

Jyske Bank Boxen, hosting its 7th major international handball event, delivered an unforgettable experience for players and fans alike.

This championship truly demonstrates what we can achieve together. A big thanks to the Danish Handball Association, the entire team, and all the volunteers for delivering another fantastic event that benefits handball, Danish sports, and our community,” said Georg Sørensen, CEO of MCH A/S, which operates Jyske Bank Boxen.
