In June 2025, Denmark is set to become the epi centre of global cycling discussions as it hosts the UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum, alongside the new addition of the UCI Women’s WorldTour and the UCI WorldTour race – the Copenhagen Sprint.
On Friday 20 June, a packed weekend of world class cycling will kick off, with the UCI Women’s WorldTour race on 21 June and the UCI WorldTour race on 22 June, alongside a genuine celebration of cycling for all with the UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum, a collaboration between the City of Copenhagen/Wonderful Copenhagen, Sport Event Denmark, and the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).
UCI President David Lappartient said: “Copenhagen’s world-class cycling infrastructure and exemplary vision to be the best cycling city in the world makes it an ideal setting for the UCl’s flagship event dedicated to cycling for all, mobility and sustainability. As the first city to be awarded the UCI Bike City Label in 2008, we are delighted to provide Copenhagen with an additional opportunity to shine on the global stage. The UCI is very impressed by the city’s vision for the Forum to foster synergy and social cohesion by linking professional cycling events and everyday cycling initiatives, and to offer delegates the opportunity to witness both behind-the-scenes experiences and the tangible legacy of sporting events”.
Cycling Legacy and Ambitious Goals
Building on the legacy from the many UCI World Championships organised in Denmark, and the 2022 Tour de France Grand Départ, the UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum celebrates the nation’s cycling culture while fostering global progress in everyday and elite cycling. With the ambition to increase cycling by 20 percent nationally, the Forum aims to unite political leaders, private sector innovators, academics, and civil society to advance cycling globally.
A Diverse Agenda for a Global Audience
The Forum will address important themes such as international cycling collaboration, bicycle-friendly urban development, and health promotion through active transportation. Additional focus will include initiatives to improve cycling accessibility for vulnerable groups and advancing the European Declaration on Cycling, aligning with Denmark’s EU Council presidency in late 2025.
“We’re proud to host this landmark event as an addition to staging the UCI Women’s WorldTour and the UCI WorldTour races, the Copenhagen Sprint,” said Johnny Lillelund, President of the Danish Cycling Federation.”Denmark has a long tradition of integrating cycling into everyday life and elite sports. This event showcases how cycling can drive sustainable urban development, health, and social inclusion. We look forward to sharing our expertise and learning from global leaders in the field.”
Copenhagen: A Global Cycling Hub
City of Copenhagen, a leader in sustainable urban planning, views the summit as a key milestone in its cycling ambitions. Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Lars Weiss, says:
“Cycling is woven into the fabric of Copenhagen and we aim to inspire cities worldwide to embrace cycling as a tool for progress. Hosting the UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum alongside the Copenhagen Cycling Summit highlights our commitment to sustainable mobility. This will kick off a weekend of world class cycling and celebration for everyone as the Copenhagen Sprint race is held for the first time ever!”
Denmark’s Cycle Superhighways awarded
At this years’ UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum, the Capital Region’s Cycle Superhighways project was awarded the “UCI Bike City Award” for being the most innovative project in the UCI Bike City category. The Cycle Superhighways are a connected network of cycling paths in the Capital Region, prioritizing high-quality cycling conditions to create better opportunities for cycle commuters.
