Successful Conclusion of the 2024 Tissot UCI Track World Championships in Ballerup

The 2024 Tissot UCI Track World Championships have drawn to a close, and Ballerup Super Arena has been the stage for an extraordinary display of world-class cycling. Over five thrilling days, the planet’s best track cyclists competed for the coveted rainbow jerseys, and the Danish athletes provided the home crowd with unforgettable performances.

A Triumphant End to a Remarkable UCI World Championships

With 328 riders from 40 nations and a packed velodrome generating an electric atmosphere, the 2024 Tissot UCI Track World Championships proved not only to be a sporting triumph but also a logistical and organisational success. The event has once again highlighted why Denmark is recognised as a top cycling nation, both on the track and as a destination for major international sporting events.

Johnny Lillelund, acting president of the Danish Cycling Federation, expressed his pride of the event:
“Hosting a UCI World Championships on home soil is always special, and this year we truly showcased what we are capable of. The Danish riders performed at the highest level, and it was incredible to see them compete in front of our passionate home crowd. Together with Sport Event Denmark, Ballerup, Copenhagen, and Wonderful Copenhagen, we’ve created an event that will be remembered for years to come. The dedication of our volunteers, cycling clubs, and the entire Danish cycling community has been exceptional.”

David Lappartient, UCI President, said: “The Ballerup Super Arena once again provided the stage for top class international racing. This is the third time we have taken our leading annual event for track cycling to this magnificent velodrome, and we are never disappointed. The organisation was excellent, the athletes delivered remarkable performances, and the enthusiastic fans added to the incredible atmosphere. Thank you all for an unforgettable five days!”

An International Event Highlighting Denmark’s Event Capabilities

Lars Lundov, CEO of Sport Event Denmark, emphasized the event’s significance for Denmark as a premier event-hosting nation:
“Once again, Denmark has demonstrated why we are a world leader in cycling. Hosting the Tissot UCI Track World Championships has given us the opportunity to showcase our expertise both on and off the track. This event is not only a sporting spectacle but also a platform to present Denmark’s event management excellence. Our collaboration with the Danish Cycling Federation, the municipalities of Copenhagen and Ballerup, and Wonderful Copenhagen has been key to this success.”

Celebrating Community and International Unity through Cycling

Mayor of Ballerup, Jesper Würtzen, expressed his pride in the local community’s role in hosting the event:
“The UCI Track World Championships have been exactly the kind of celebration we had hoped for. The many talented riders have created unique and unforgettable experiences for fans both in the arena and at home, and I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a more intense and captivating atmosphere at the Ballerup Super Arena. I’m proud that we in Ballerup can help bring Danes together around track cycling. A big thank you goes out to all the people who have worked tirelessly to make it all possible. I would also like to congratulate all the medal winners”

Copenhagen’s Lord Mayor, Lars Weiss, also highlighted the significance of the event for the capital:
Congratulations to all the medal recipients. The Tissot UCI Track World Championshipsin Ballerup was five days of track cycling at the very highest level. With more than 100,000 spectators, 40 participating nations and 370 riders, it was a great success. I am looking forward to continuing the cycling celebrations next summer, when Copenhagen’s new UCI World Tour race – Copenhagen Sprint – will start on 21 and 22 June 2025. Here we will unite the cycling world once again.”

The 2024 Tissot UCI Track World Championships have further solidified Denmark’s reputation as a leading cycling nation, while Ballerup Super Arena has once again proven its capacity to deliver an unforgettable experience for both athletes and spectators.

In 2025, Denmark will host the UCI BMX Racing World Championships and the UCI World Tour, Copenhagen Sprint.
