Denmark to host the 2029 UCI Road World Championships

Cycling is in our DNA – now we’re taking it to the next level. Denmark is committed to cycling.

Denmark to host the UCI Road World Championships in 2029. UCI appointed the host today in Zürich at the UCI Congress.

Our vision for the 2029 UCI Road World Championships is one of ambition, energy, and, of course, a little Danish hygge. We’re not just offering another championship; we’re offering a celebration on two wheels—a ride through history, innovation, and unity. Imagine streets not just filled, but alive with the energy of fans and riders alike. Imagine a race where the cheers are as loud as the pedals, and where the entire nation becomes a cycling fan zone. That’s our promise to the world of cycling.

Denmark’s love affair with cycling is no secret. Our connection to the sport dates back over a century to when the UCI Road World Championships first graced Danish soil in 1921. Since then, we’ve continuously strengthened our commitment to cycling, hosting multiple UCI World Championships, including the unforgettable 2011 edition, and Copenhagen earning the title as the world’s first UCI Bike City when the label was first launched in 2008. We don’t just host cycling events—we live them, and 2029 would be no different.

Our bid was more than just a well-organized event—it’s a movement. With full financial backing and unwavering support from our partners, we’re prepared to deliver a spectacle that aligns seamlessly with the UCI’s values and Agenda 2030. While we’re confident in our organisational prowess, we’re also here to bring a bit of that famous Danish hygge to the festivities.

We’re not just about the competition; we’re about community. We’ll transform the 2029 UCI Road World Championships into an event that brings people from all walks of life together in the name of cycling. From mass participation events and fan zones to cultural celebrations that showcase the best of Denmark, our championship will be a festive celebration of cycling.

Most importantly, we see cycling as more than a sport—it’s a way of life that plays a key role in global sustainability. That’s why our commitment extends beyond the competitions. We pledge to actively promote the environmental benefits of cycling, working in harmony with the UCI’s vision to create a more sustainable world.

In Denmark, the streets don’t just take you somewhere—they’re the destination. Denmark—where cycling is more than a race. It’s a way of life.
