Today marks exactly one year until the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, transforms into a true basketball metropolis with the staging of FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup 2025. With the Paris Olympics and the recent Europe Cup in Vienna, interest in 3×3 basketball is greater than ever. This intense discipline has quickly become one of the most spectator-friendly sports in the world.

Basketball is one of the most popular sports worldwide, played at all levels, from schoolyards to the biggest international championships. 3×3 basketball combines all the elements that make traditional basketball so popular – speed, excitement, and a festive atmosphere – into a format that is easy to follow and understand.

Vienna hosted this year’s Europe Cup, where we witnessed how the sport can gather thousands of fans and create an amazing atmosphere. The Danish Basketball Federation is excited to recreate this in the heart of Copenhagen, in collaboration with Sport Event Denmark, and the City of Copenhagen.

Representatives from the Copenhagen, the Danish Basketball Federation, and Sport Event Denmark attended the energy-filled event in Vienna to draw inspiration. This inspiration will be crucial in planning next year’s event. Ambitious plans are in place to deliver an unforgettable experience, not only through the championship itself but also through Copenhagen Street Days, which will fill the areas around the venue with life and festivities. Sustainability, inclusion and gender equality are important factors for all Danish partners and will be incorporated in the planning and execution of the event.

“With the FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup 2024 recently concluded, we’re eagerly anticipating next year’s event in Copenhagen. FIBA is excited to bring this dynamic and fast-paced tournament to such a vibrant city. Copenhagen’s passion for sports and its rich cultural backdrop make it the perfect host for what promises to be an unforgettable competition,” said Alex Sanchez, FIBA 3×3 Managing Director.

“We are looking forward to bring the FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup to Copenhagen and the Danish citizens,” said Jesper W. Sørensen, Secretary General of the Danish Basketball Federation. “3×3 basketball is fast-paced and entertaining, and we are sure that the people of Copenhagen will welcome the event with open arms. After the Olympics in Paris and our experience in Vienna, we are ready to create a unique experience for both players and fans. We saw in Vienna what a strong home court can do for the event, where the underrated Austrian men’s national team went all the way beating the big favorites from Serbia in the final to the delight of the sold-out stands.”

“We have seen how 3×3 basketball unites people and creates a unique atmosphere,” said Lars Lundov, CEO of Sport Event Denmark. “With a year to go, we still have time to fine-tune our preparations alongside the Danish Basketball Federation, and the City of Copenhagen. I look forward to seeing the heart of Copenhagen become the center of an unforgettable sports and streets festival in 2025.”

About the 3×3 Europe Cup 2025

In June, Denmark hosted the qualifying tournament, where 3×3 national teams competed for a spot in the Europe Cup in Vienna this past August. While this year’s event was free of charge, next year will offer ticketed access, allowing spectators to secure their seats. The FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup will take place from 5-7 September 2025. The 3×3 Europe Cup will be the main attraction at the City of Copenhagen street festival, ‘Copenhagen Street Days’.

The Danish Basketball Federation will organise the FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup 2025 on behalf of the international federation, FIBA, with Sport Event Denmark, and the City of Copenhagen as partners.

About 3×3 Basketball
3×3 basketball is a more compact and intense version of traditional basketball. It was introduced as an official discipline at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games and has since gained massive global popularity. As the name suggests, it is played with three players on each team instead of five, on a half-court with one basket. The game lasts 10 minutes or until one team scores 21 points, making the matches fast, high-paced, and action-packed. 3×3 basketball is known for its unpredictability, as the game’s momentum can shift quickly, and individual performances often play a decisive role. This version of basketball highlights the sport’s essence – speed, creativity, and excitement – in a way that is easy to follow and extremely spectator-friendly. It makes 3×3 basketball an ideal discipline for both major sports arenas and urban environments, where the raw energy of the game can be enjoyed up close by the audience.
