Rainbow colors in the world of cycling are synonymous with world champions. Pancakes at City Hall in Copenhagen are synonymous with celebrating champions. Today, the Danish world champions in the 4000m team pursuit were celebrated. Today, is also approximately one year until the Danish champions will defend their rainbow colors on home ground at the UCI Track World Championships.
Rasmus Lund, Carl-Frederik Bévort, Niklas Larsen, Lasse Norman Leth, and Frederik Rodenberg became world champions in the 4000m team pursuit in Glasgow this summer. Next year, they will defend their title on home ground in Ballerup Super Arena packed with cheering spectators. Ticket sales are underway, and many have already secured their seats. As partout tickets sold out within the first day, it’s essential to act quickly if you want to secure a spot for the exciting races in the velodrome.
In addition to marking “one year to go,” today was also the day when the Danish athletes were celebrated for their World Championship title at City Hall in Copenhagen.
For the riders, it was a great day, and Lasse Norman Leth said, “It’s awesome to be here. This is my first time, even though I think I’ve earned it more than once by now. It’s great to be part of such a big celebration in a place like this. I’m excited, and I’m really looking forward to it. First, I can’t wait to taste those pancakes, and secondly, I’m excited to receive the honor of being here.”
Expectations for defending the World Championship also got a few words: “I’m incredibly excited about defending our World Championship title. Competing on home ground in front of a Danish audience will be fantastic. I’ve heard that ticket sales are going super well, so it’s truly overwhelming to see so many people eager to watch us race. I’m really looking forward to the whole journey from now until the Olympics, both in terms of performance and the journey with the national track team and my best friends. So, we’ll carry the momentum from the Olympics to Ballerup and show our home crowd what we can do. It’s going to be amazing,” Lasse Norman Leth concluded.
The Danish Cycling Federation is well into the preparations for next year’s UCI Track World Championships. The president of the Danish Cycling Federation, Morten Anderson, said:
“I can promise cycling fans a unique experience when the Track World Championships are staged in Denmark. It will be a huge event to witness our defending world champions in the 4000-meter team pursuit and the rest of the Danish elite, up close, on home ground. Hopefully, the 2024 UCI Track World Championships will be the culmination of many years of hard work, both from the elite and not least all the volunteers who work tirelessly every day to ensure that we as a nation excel in track cycling. I look forward to seeing the world’s best riders compete next year.”
The president of the Danish Cycling Federation is backed by Lars Lundov, CEO of Sport Event Denmark:
“Today, the Danish 4000m team was celebrated at City Hall with pancakes for their World Championship title. Today, we can also mark that there is one year to go until the UCI Track World Championships in Denmark. With one year to go, we together with the Danish Cycling Federation, and Ballerup Municipality, well underway planning a setup that will work for both athletes, and spectators. We can already see significant expectations. For example, we see that ticket sales, which have just started, are going very well.”
Efforts are not only focused on the track when titles are secured. In addition to the Danish Cycling Federation, and Sport Event Denmark, both Ballerup Municipality, Copenhagen Municipality, and Wonderful Copenhagen are also part of the team.
In Ballerup, Mayor Jesper Würtzen looks forward to seeing the world’s elite in Ballerup Super Arena, while being cheered on by hopefully an enthusiastic audience from both Denmark and abroad. Mayor Jesper Würtzen said: “We look forward to once again being the host municipality for a major international event, and we look forward to welcoming both spectators and riders to Ballerup. Ballerup Super Arena will be the perfect backdrop, and I hope that the many Danish and international spectators will come to the city and contribute to a genuine celebration of cycling.”
