Danish cyclists are world champions in cycling – both in everyday life and on roads and mountains all over the world. We bring our bicycles along for all stages of life. Now, another stage is opening: UCI Gran Fondo Svendborg, which will take place on June 8-9 next year.

The colors of the World Championship rainbow are stamped into the UCI Gran Fondo Svendborg, as the race, in addition to being a Gran Fondo World Championships celebration, also acts as a qualification race for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships later this year also in Denmark.

For all participants, beautiful and safe routes in southern Fyn are planned. If you’re up for the battle against the clock – and yourself – Saturday offers a 24 km individual time trial. On Sunday, you can choose between two routes: Gran Fondo at 159 km and Medio Fondo at 78 km.

Registration is now open, and both recreational riders who want to participate for the experience and riders with ambitions to qualify for the UCI Grand Fondo World Championships in Aalborg, Denmark.

Morten Anderson, president of the Danish Cycling Federation, looks forward to next year’s UCI Gran Fondo: “We are creating world-class conditions for riders participating in the UCI Gran Fondo in Svendborg. Together with Sport Event Denmark, Svendborg Municipality, and Destination Fyn, we are creating a setup designed for world champions. In the road race, the route will be completely closed for the first 60 minutes, and the individual time trial will take place on a completely closed route. UCI Gran Fondo Svendborg will be a cycling celebration for both participants and spectators.”

Sport Event Denmark is one of the partners behind UCI Gran Fondo Svendborg, and they also look forward to next year’s major event: “Cycling and Denmark go hand in hand! Cycling events bring people together and create a sense of celebration and great experiences for both recreational riders, elite cyclists, and spectators. Therefore, it’s delightful that in 2024, Denmark will host not one but two UCI Gran Fondo events: the qualifying race in Svendborg and the final World Championship in Aalborg,” says Lars Lundov, CEO of Sport Event Denmark.

In Svendborg Municipality, Mayor Bo Hansen is also excited: “We look forward to welcoming the many riders and cycling enthusiasts who visit Svendborg in connection with the UCI Gran Fondo. The combination of recreational sports and elite sports creates something very special for both participants and spectators, and I’m sure we’ll have festive days with high intensity on the beautiful, southern routes.”

Two races will be staged – individual time trial and road race. The individual time trial route will be completely closed to traffic for a period.

The road race routes will be closed to traffic for 60 minutes. This means that the route will be closed for 60 minutes from the time the first rider passes. If you are more than 60 minutes slower than the leading rider, you will ride on an open route, as in regular cycling races, complying with traffic laws and instructions from the officials.
